That is absurd. This war is being waged for the benefit of Israel. Even the pussyfooting of the on and off strikes is to force the Arabs to sign on the so called Abraham Accords.

To be fair the development of GPUs have stalled over the years. If they kept up with the progress instead of focusing on enterprise market, likely 256GB consumer GPU would be a norm today.
From my experience these open source models are nowhere near the performance offered by Fable/Opus/GPT-5.6. Whenever I tried Qwen, Kimi, Deepseek, the results were much worse and it just took much more time to get something usable. When you consider that, the frontier offerings are still much cheaper.
That might be true right now, but how long until you have to move the goalposts? In my experience with DeepSeek and Kimi, they're as capable as the frontier was four months ago, which already solves a big chunk of the coding tasks that I'm interested in.

Probably the GP meant to hire people and order them to use a tall ladder. I don't think there's any country where it's illegal for you to use one outside of some kind of contract.
Tradespeople are typically independent contractors. You hire them to do a task, and they use their own judgement on which tools to use. You don't order them to use a tall ladder...
"very" close is subjective. In my opinion it is nowhere near running audio through real tape. The computation capability needed to fully simulate tape in real time is not there yet. To model all subtle interactions, phase etc you'd need to run audio in 10-100+ MHz range.
The biggest pet peeve is that you never know whether your request is dealt with by Opus and not Sonnet or Haiku or even something else and you still pay for Opus. You have to ask the model some difficult question and gauge which one is doing the work, but often they switch halfway the task when it goes downhill (they might say it is because of context window) but still charge you full price and you have to start the session again (them making even more money). This should be more regulated and externally audited, what exactly you are paying for.
